"I get it. I know what independent
women are," said Barbara Bush.
"George has made the Republicans more inclusive. We had pro-life and pro-choice people speak at our convention. How many pro-life people spoke at the Democratic convention,'' asked Barbara Bush.
Laura Bush said, "Women want to know and be assured they will be at the table in a Bush administration."
Bush was asked if, as president, he would overrule the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of the abortion-pill, RU 486. "No," said Bush.
Barbara Bush spoke about her son in a folksy style, saying that he knows about "kitchen table issues" and surrounded himself with strong women.
Earlier in the day, the GOP women said the abortion issue shouldn't stop women from supporting him.
"I am pro-choice; I don't have the same concept of the issue as George W. Bush but I am all for him," said U. S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Ill).
