-- November 16, 2004 To Have Fool-Proof Voting, We Need Fool-Proof Voters. A funny thing happened on the way to the White House. OK, so it wasn’t ha-ha funny. Nonetheless, there are signs of some funny business, particularly in those precincts where there were more votes for George Bush than there were registered voters. Nothing unusual there, reports the mainstream media. After all, when you got it goin’ on like Dubya does, you’re going to have some extraordinary results. To hear the Religious Right tell it, the way these votes miraculously multiplied like loaves and fishes is all the more evidence that the Appointed One is also the Anointed One. And the lockdown in Ohio where observers were prohibited from watching the votes being counted? Chalk it up to the latest faith-based initiative ... faith-based voting. After all, if we are going to have a secret ballot, why not go all the way to have the votes counted in secret as well? But as John Wayne once said, “Whoa, cowboy ... not so fast.” Despite the deafening silence of mainstream media, the Green and Libertarian candidates have raised the funds for a complete Ohio recount (no thanks to those no ‘count Democrats). And because they have shown we can count on them, they need to be able to count on us. Right now, the Republicans are counting on our inability to count. This is more than a math problem. It’s an aftermath problem. If we fail to count the vote this time, our vote will fail to count next time. You can count on it. Truly, the key to foolproof voting is ... foolproof voters. In other words, time to stop the foolishness and demand proof that we weren’t fooled. Check out the websites below. Educate yourself and circulate information. Call your local and national news services, speak to the editors and tell them to do their job. The only way to restore freedom of press in this country is if we the people freely press the press.
